Amman, Sept. 22 (Petra) – The Minister of Youth Raed Adwan on Monday highlighted the importance of activating and implementing UN Security Council Resolution 2250 on Youth, Peace, and Security.
The resolution, which originated from efforts by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al-Hussein bin Abdullah II during his 2015 presidency of the Security Council’s open debate on "The Role of Youth in Countering Violent Extremism and Promoting Peace," was adopted unanimously to enhance youth participation in international peace and security.
Speaking during a meeting with members of the Jordanian National Coalition for Resolution 2250, attended by Secretary-General of the Ministry Mazen Abu Baqar, Adwan stressed the ministry’s commitment to engaging youth in implementing the resolution and executing the recently approved national action plan.
He noted that national efforts aim to apply the resolution across political, economic, and social spheres. Within the National Youth Strategy 2019–2025, a dedicated axis on Youth, Peace, and Security has been established.
The ministry has also created a specialized unit to institutionalize the resolution, develop related plans and programs, and align with the Arab Youth, Peace, and Security Strategy, supporting broader Arab efforts to promote effective youth participation in decision-making and advancing the regional peace and security agenda.
Youth coalition members presented recommendations during the meeting to further activate and implement Resolution 2250, increase awareness of its goals through dialogue and training sessions, institutionalize coalition activities, and highlight Jordan’s domestic and international efforts in translating the resolution into action.
